Toddlera guy @ the park made me cry today... So i am the Nanny. my 4 yr old charge decided to beat a little girl with a stick.... I removed him from the situation, sat him down, explained "it...(more) (0 replies)
is not okay to hit people..." so i sat him in a time out, he acted up and i said "you will not hit people" please walk around the playground 5 times (walking around the playground he was not out of my sight! and each time he passed me i told him why he was walking "you will not hit")... on the 4th lap around a father said to me "you are torturing this child, i will call child services, you should be the one doing laps".... i cried.. first was my punishment harsh? was he uncalled for? ...... removing him from the park was not an option
you removed him from the situation and gave him something to do to burn energy

posted on 2/26/09 9:50pm hidereplyI think you were right though the laps is a bit odd. Nevertheless you did what you could. Next time maybe have him remain in time out.

posted on 2/26/09 9:53pm hidereplyfirst part was fine. Doing laps is cruel. Maybe you would be better off in the army.
posted on 2/26/09 9:53pm hidereplynp - How are laps cruel?
posted on 2/26/09 9:54pm hidereplybtw: his laps were less than 3 minutes around.. so he was walking no more than 10 minutes before dad said something
posted on 2/26/09 9:55pm hidereplyit is like in the army, drop and give me 20. I like what you said at first, but I don't see what doing laps is teaching the child. A simple time-out would have been sufficient.
posted on 2/26/09 10:00pm hidereplythat would be considered corporal punishment--not OK
posted on 2/26/09 9:55pm hidereplynp - walking laps is considered corporal punishment? Give me a break
posted on 2/26/09 9:55pm hidereplywhen you make a kid do something physical as punishment it is corporal punishment, that's why teachers can't have kids write "I will not misbehave in school" 100 times on the black...(more)

A teacher would get fired for giving a kid the punishment this nanny did. Just sayin.
